The People

Engineers, Adam Cissell and Marc Valois, have both been involved with music since an early age. Both multi-instrumentalists, they have played in various bands together. When the chance arose for the two of them to put a studio together they said, “yeah.” Shortly after, Dead Moon Audio was born.

Adam Cissell

Growing up in Jeffersonville, IN, Adam developed an interest in music and recording while growing up in the Louisville, KY area. After receiving a M.S.M.E. with a focus on Acoustics and Vibrations from Purdue University in 2002, Adam moved to New England, where he began working professionally as an acoustic engineer. He has been active in the music scene, playing in Guv, Wounded By Lazers, Boston Ruin, Future Spa and Adam PC. He has been actively recording, mixing and mastering since 2003.

Marc Valois

Born in Providence, RI, Marc was influenced by music at a young age. Growing up listening to punk rock and playing shows in Providence shaped his trajectory. Upon moving to Boston in 2002 he was heavily involved in the Boston music scene playing in many bands throughout the years such as Shanghai Valentine, Movers & Shakers, Dan Webb & The Spiders, Future Spa, Adam PC and Blinders. Co-founder of now defunct Starlab Studios and Starlab Fest, Marc has been an aide to the Boston music community for over a decade. He studied music production at McNally Smith College Of Music while living in Minneapolis, MN (2005-2006). He has been producing and engineering actively since 2006.

The Studio

Dead Moon Audio consists of a Live Room, Isolation Booth, Control Room, Isolation Cabinet Room and a Lounge.  With over 600 square feet of floor space, our Live Room is well-suited to accommodate nearly any size band or musical ensemble. The space has been acoustically designed to capture a performance in a great sounding room. The Control Room, designed by Michael Blackmer,  features a multi-faceted approach of acoustical treatment and non-parallel surfaces designed to break up acoustical room mode resonances, minimize diffuse reflections and achieve “flat” acoustical response.

The  Isolation Booth, designed to achieve acoustic “dry” direct-sound results, is large enough to track drums, piano, horns or more typical uses such as vocal tracking or guitar amplifier isolation.

The Isolation Cabinet Room, physically separated from the Live Room and Isolation Booth, features two cabinets for isolated close-mic recording of speaker cabinets. With interior dimensions of 5.5’ x 4’ x 3’, these isolation cabinets can accommodate most commonly used speaker cabinets, including 8x10 bass cabs or 8x12 full stack cabinets..

Both instrument and speaker pass-throughs allow signal to passed into and out of the Live Room, Isolation Booth, Control Room and Isolation Cabinet Room.

The Lounge is acoustically isolated from the rest of the studio. This “hangout” room is a place to chill, have food and drinks, or generally do whatever while others are busy tracking, mixing, etc.
